IDE201: Integrate Technology in Instruction I
Syracuse University l Fall 2019 & Spring 2020
Course Reflection
During my first semester as a Ph.D. student at Syracuse University in Fall 2019, I taught IDE 201: Integrate Technology in Instruction III. This is a course designed for pre-service teachers at the School of Education. This series of technology integration courses is structured as three one-credit courses (IDE 201, IDE 301, and IDE 401), which provide students with the knowledge, skills, and experience that PreK-12 teachers need in order to incorporate emerging information and communication technologies into their teaching in the Digital/Information Age, so they can:
-
develop strategies for improving teaching and learning using digital tools that are easy to use and readily available in most school systems.
-
develop technology-infused lessons and other instructional resources that support student learning, and
-
create tools for creative and flexible evaluations of students’ academic progress.
While teaching IDE201 Session 2, I was the lead instructor, supervised by Prof. Jing Lei. I was given a lot of freedom with this course and was able to create my own syllabus, lesson plans, activities, and so on. I tried to add my teaching features into the classroom and make students more comfortable within the learning environment. I also compared different assessment tools to find the best way to help students achieve their goals.
During the Spring 2020 semester, I have another opportunity to teach IDE201. I utilized the lessons I have learned from the feedback I received in previous semesters, colleagues, and my advisors to update the class structure. I created a more engaging environment to guide my students in the learning process.
