Welcome to My Teaching Portfolio!

Lei-342022.jpg

Hello everyone! My name is Lei Wang, and I earned my Ph.D. in Instruction Design, Development and Evaluation at Syracuse University. In 2022 I completed the first phase of validating the rubric with the target audience-instructional designers. I am currently working on the second phase, my dissertation, which is to use the Delphi method to validate a Learning Resources Rubric with instructional designer experts. The rubric was created based on three key deep learning theories and has the potential to prompt instructional designers to design and select learning resources to prompt deeper learning. Under the direction of Dr. Tiffany Koszalka(committee chair), Dr. Rob Pusch, and Dr. Lianjun Zhang, I am on the right track to complete and defend my dissertation before December of 2023.

Throughout my career in teaching, I have developed strong interests in exploring the nexus of theory-based instructional models, design, the possibilities technology offers in aiding the transformation of teaching and learning with a focus on assessing learning resources using principles of design and learning. In my class, I embed both theoretical and practical characteristics of technology integration strategies into teaching to better support pre-service teachers at Syracuse University. This website was designed to demonstrate my diverse experiences in teaching and mentoring.

Since Fall 2019, I have developed my passion for teaching as a teaching assistant in various classrooms, and I would like to see teaching become a healthier, better-supported, and more effective profession. That's why I am glad to continue my TA work and seek other experiences that will enhance my teaching abilities.

Before I came to Syracuse, I was an English teacher working in a K-12 Educational setting in China. I won many awards based on my teaching performances there and am adding to those skills through new experiences here in the US. I have served on the new student orientation in my department and was a First-Year Experience facilitator engaging students and faculty in small group discussions about the relevant themes from the book Born A Crime. I am also a facilitator at the center for international services, where I work with international students and prompt more discussions for students on topics related to everyday life. Off campus, I volunteer at the CNY Chinese school as a Chinese language teacher with American students.

Since starting my doctoral coursework at Syracuse University, I’ve greatly enjoyed working as a teaching assistant. In my first semester, fall 2019; I was the co-instructor for IDE401, which is one of the series of technology integration courses. I also worked with Amber to teach IDE201. We prepared the learning materials together and graded students' homework assignments.

I have been an instructor of Record of IDE401 since 2020. I also led the first technology workshop for Fulbright scholars and got very positive feedback in Spring 2020.

Now that you've read about some of my experiences, please take a tour of my teaching portfolio to get to know more about me. Below you can find a guide to the sections of my portfolio in addition to the drop-down menu options at the top of this page.
